Goals
Share updated research and resources on substance use by women throughout the childbearing years (preconception, pregnancy and postpartum).
Invite exchange on how to have practical, evidence-based, conversations with women about alcohol and related health concerns - in pregnancy and beyond.
Promote skills on how to identify and support women using alcohol and other substances in pregnancy and the childbearing years.
Approach
Combining research and clinical experience, educators help to support service providers and others in related work to effectively discuss substance use with women in the childbearing years - and to engage women in conversations for change.
This approach is linked to the evidence for Motivational Interviewing (MI), and integrates this collaborative counselling stance within women-centred and harm reduction approaches.
